Located in Honolulu, Hawaii, this 55-foot custom-built vessel named Kohola is an amazing yacht that provides all the amenities of living on land, but with 360 degree views of the water. Kohola is an exceptional yacht in a class of her own, built in Hawaii, and completed in 1997. A 2 Bed, 2 Bath yacht designed for comfort and luxury. The flat bottom 22′ beam provides 2000 sq. ft. living space and additional 1500 sq. ft. deck space, drafting only 3′ of water.
The current owners are the first and only owners, they designed and built the boat starting in 1994, and completed it in 1997. Don Stoddard is the marine engineer/architect and builder. It took four months to craft the hull out of steel, then another year and a half to get the interior just the way they wanted it.
Powered by twin 135 HP Mercury outboard engines, this boat has adequate power to handle Hawaii’s waters on the occasional sunset cruise.
The upper level of the two-story boat is a spacious living area with a master suite. The bedroom has wall-to-wall carpeting, built-in oak cabinets and walk-in his and hers closets. The bathroom is tiled with a full shower, Raritan marine toilet with wastewater treatment system and a single sink. There is also Jacuzzi tub with waterfall faucet.
Forward of the master suite is a guest quarters with a connecting water-tight door to a forward apartment with separate entrance.
Laundry/washer dryer: GE Space-Saver unit.
The lower level is the galley, den/library, and another bedroom. The galley is better appointed and more spacious than many home kitchens. Full-size GE refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven, and microwave.
The roof of the boat is the outside space–wide open with beautiful ocean and Waikīkī views.
The outside aft deck is a large lazaret/workshop.
The boat’s electricity systems are 12v/120v/240v with shore power and a separate generator. It’s also self-sustaining, Kohola is connected to the grid but is set up to capture solar power as well. The grid is rarely needed. The boat has 12 solar electric panels and a solar water heater.
